TO THE EFFECTS OF COVID-19 UPON
ASSOCIATION MEMBERS AND STAKEHOLDERS
The Board of Directors, unanimously, has approved business continuity measures, and continues working actively to develop and implement measures intended to benefit association members, whose business practices have been malaffected by restrictions of movement and interaction, both imposed and volitional, resulting from the current pandemic.
For individuals with applications in queue, the Board of Directors has resumed processing of applications.
For individuals intending to apply for membership, the depth and breadth of knowledge, and aggregate experience, of our members and select benefits make the association an invaluable resource for participants. There is no better time to take advantage of the networking and support your colleagues can offer.

PIAVA, as we are commonly known, is a 501c (6) non-profit organization consisting of members who may be:
1. A Private Investigator registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (VA DCJS)*.
2. A private investigator or equivalent credentialed in a state or jurisdiction other than Virginia.
3. An individual working in any private security services or related industry.
* In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the definition of Private Investigator, in pertinent part, is:
"...any individual who engages in the business of, or accepts employment to make, investigations to obtain information on crimes or civil wrongs; the location, disposition, or recovery of stolen property; the cause of accidents, fires, damages, or injuries to persons or to property; or evidence to be used before any court, board, officer, or investigative committee."
Every PIAVA member pledges to conduct his or her activities in accordance with the professional Code of Ethics of the association.
Our members routinely share information, resources, training and business opportunities, and strive to increase public awareness of the value of hiring properly credentialed Private Investigations Businesses and Private Investigators with competencies and skill sets suited for each particular engagement.
The association is actively involved in monitoring legislation and regulations affecting private investigators and equivalents in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and promoting change for the betterment of our community.

IMPORTANT: In Virginia, only Licensed Private Investigations Businesses contract with clients to conduct investigations.
In Virginia, only licensed Private lnvestigations Businesses are permitted to have clients, and any registered Private Investigator may serve clients only when contracted by a licensed Private lnvestigations Business with which that Private Investigator is formally associated.
Any contract for an investigation must include the VA DCJS License Number of the Private Investigations Business party(ies) to the contract.
A licensed Virginia Private Investigations Business will have a license number appearing as "11-xxxxx".
A registered Virginia Private Investigator will have a registration number appearing as "99-xxxxxx" and will be issued a VA DCJS identification card.
